Lithologische beschrijving
Zeer heterogeen. De afzettingen worden (altijd) onderverdeeld in de laagpakketten Bolders Bank (keileem), Dogger Bank (glaciolacustrien), Well Ground (fluvioglaciaal), Botney Cut (oudere tunneldalopvullingen) en Volans (jongere tunneldalopvullingen), zie beschrijvingen aldaar.

Definitie ondergrens
Discordant, deels scherp contact met schelphoudend marien of deltaïsch zand en klei (Alkaid Laagpakket, Yarmouth Roads Formatie; Egmond Ground en Eem formaties), glacigene afzettingen (formaties van Peelo en Drente), (ondiep) mariene klei (Bruine Bank en Eem formaties) of periglaciaal zand met organische resten (formaties van Drachten en Boxtel).
Definitie bovengrens
Veelal scherp contact met schelphoudend getijdezand en -klei (Laagpakket van Wormer, Formatie van Naaldwijk), schelphoudend marien sediment (Southern Bight en Urania formaties), of periglaciaal zand met organische resten (Formatie van Boxtel). Meer lokaal komt een diffuse overgang voor naar een Holocene mariene omwerkingslaag (Indefatigable Grounds Laagpakket, Southern Bight Formatie) of marien slib (Well Hole Laagpakket, Urania Formatie). Deels aan de zeebodem (omgeving Klaverbank).
Dikte indicatie
Sterk variabel. Maximaal tot ongeveer 60 m in de vorm van tunneldalopvullingen.
Geografische verbreiding
Wijdverbreid in het noordwesten van het Nederlands Continentaal Plat (NCP).

Nederland (land): afwezig; VK: Well Ground, Dogger Bank (inclusief Volans Member), Bolders Bank en Botney Cut formations (gedefinieerd en gekarteerd in samenspraak met de Britse Geologische Dienst; Jeffery et al. 1989 & 1991; Stoker et al. 2011), Wee Bankie Formation (Gatliff et al. 1994), Younger Dogger Bank Formation (Cotterill et al. 2017, Roberts et al. 2018), deel van de North Sea Coast Glacigenic Subgroup (McMillan et al. 2011); DUI: Limnisch-fluviatile Schichten (Sindowski 1970); Limnic Fluvial Formation (Coughlan et al. 2018); BEL: afwezig.
