Stramproy Formation

Code
NUSY
Status
Formal (De Lang & Weerts 2003).
Lithological description

Pale brown to greyish white very fine to medium sand, bleached, quartz-rich, stable heavy-mineral association, commonly non-calcareous. Grey to brownish grey loam beds and greenish grey to brown clay beds. Local peat horizons and layers of fine gravel.

Depositional setting

Small-scale fluvial (rivers draining northern Belgium), fluvio-aeolian (periglacial), local colluvial, estuarine (Westerhoff 2008) and shallow marine.

Definition of lower boundary

Sharp contact with fluvial clay (Waalre Formation), gradual transition into fluvial sand (Kieseloolite Formation).

Definition of upper boundary

Sharp contact with coarser fluvial sand (Sterksel, Urk and Kreftenheye Formations). Gradual to diffuse transition into younger aeolian and local river sand (Boxtel Formation).
