Brownish grey to black clay, very silty to sandy, calcareous. Brownish grey to black sand, shelly and glauconitic.

Depositional setting

Warm delta base, delta front (Van den Berg et al. 2000).

Definition of lower boundary

Unconformable contact (Mid-Miocene Unconformity) with shallow-marine clay and sand (Rupel Formation and locally Veldhoven Formation).

Definition of upper boundary

Gradual transition into non-calcareous and micaceous shallow-marine clay and sand (Eibergen Member, Breda Formation).

Thickness indication
Up to about 20 m.
Geographical distribution
Restricted to the eastern Netherlands, close to the German border (Van den Bosch et al. 1975).
