Drachten Formation

Code
NUDN
Status
Formal (Bosch 2011).
Lithological description

Light grey to yellowish grey fine to medium sand, locally slightly silty, non-carbonaceous and non-micaceous. Subordinate humic sandy silt.

Depositional setting

Periglacial aeolian and locally fluvial, lacustrine.

Definition of lower boundary

Gradual transition into finer subglacial or ice-marginal sand (Peelo Formation) or coarser fluvial sand (Urk Formation, Tynje Member).

Definition of upper boundary

Sharp contact with till (Gieten Member, Drente Formation). Locally gradual transition into periglacial sand with glacial gravel (Boxtel Formation).
