Translation table for model units of BRO models available in Excel

In March 2025, the latest versions of BRO models DGM, REGIS II, and GeoTOP were released (see this news item for more information). The stratigraphic and hydrogeological codes of the model units have been adjusted. They are now aligned with the codes of the Stratigraphic Nomenclature and between the models themselves. The translation from the former to the current codes is now available in an Excel table.

Changes implemented

In the new release, all units have been prefixed with a group code, which indicates the geological group to which the modeled unit belongs. In DGM, REGIS II, and GeoTOP, this results in the prefixes "NU" (Upper North Sea Group), "NM" (Middle North Sea Group), "NL" (Lower North Sea Group), and “CK” (Chalk Group).
In addition, a specific change has been made for several units:

  • For model units that have not been defined as a geological unit in the Stratigraphic Nomenclature, the formation part of the code is written in lowercase letters.
  • Some formations have been divided into a part that occurs stratigraphically above and a part below another formation. The upper part is assigned the suffix 1, the lower part the suffix 2.
  • Some formations have been combined into a single model unit, with the two formation codes separated by a hyphen.
  • Several formations have been assigned a new formation code.
