Premise Definition extended after NAM and RGD (1980) . In adjoin-ing Germany currently referred to as Katzberg Folge Kemper (1973) Kemper (1973) , which was previously seen as the up-permost interval of the Upper M√ľnder Marl (e.g. Schott (1951) ; t Hart (1969) ).
Derivatio nominis Named after the village of Weiteveen, municipality of Schoonebeek, in the southeastern part of the province of Drente.

Definition Marl or marly claystone unit with some limestone intercalation sand anhydrite beds.
Upper Boundary Considerably higher GR-log readings and lower resistivity-log readings, indicative for the relatively high clay content, distinguish this member from the the overlying Serpulite Member The base of the latter is placed at the first clear limestone bed.
Lower Boundary Considerably higher GR-log readings and lower resistivity-log readings, indicative for the relatively high clay content, distinguish this member from the underlying Weiteveen Upper Evaporite Member
Distribution Dutch part of the Lower Saxony Basin, which reaches the easternmost parts of the Dutch provinces of Groningen, Drente and Overijssel.
Age Mid- to Late Portlandian t Hart (1969) ; Kemper (1973) Kemper (1973) ). The member is placed in zone Upper Malm 5 or E of the regional ostracod zonation (Wolburg (1949) ; Sung (1955) ; t Hart (1969) ).
Depositional Setting Restricted floodplain to lacustrine basin-margin or marginal-marine sub-basin (lagoonal) setting.
Sequence Stratigraphy In the basin the member represents the systems tracts around the Maximum Flooding of sequence LZA 1.4. Along its western margin the later Highstand is also involved.
